Development of Smart Gun

In a memorandum entitled "Promoting Smart Gun Technology," US President Barack Obama pledged to promote further research to help prevent injuries and deaths from firearms "stolen, misused, or accident."

"Developing and promoting technologies that will help prevent this tragedy is an urgent priority," Obama wrote, as quoted from the Huffington Post.

The term smart gun itself has existed for many years. These weapons have a number of advanced features, one of them like a fingerprint scanner that scans the identity of the owner of the weapon before firing.

Contrary to Obama's statement, Huffington Post reported in September 2015, many people who oppose smart gun, arguing that restricting freedom and encourage collaboration between governments undesirable, gun makers and retailers.

Social organizations handling procedures gun ownership in the US, the National Rifle Association, argues that these technologies will actually increase arms sales.

Meanwhile, the Department of Defense, Justice and Homeland Security plans to conduct research on security technologies weapon.

Outline designed to accelerate the deployment of these technologies will be announced no later than 90 days from now.
