Mozilla Will Turn Off Firefox OS

Mozilla Firefox OS system officially halted development after the release of version 2.6. Intense competition in the smartphone market is the reason Mozilla to take this step.

"As previously announced last December, with the state of the operating system and applications ecosystem that we should pursue, Mozilla was not quite able to win the smartphone market commercial," Mozilla said in a statement, as quoted from page Times Tech.

The plan version 2.6 of Firefox OS will be released in May 2016. The termination of this support will also apply to staff that was also involved in the Mozilla Firefox OS.

Not only that, Mozilla also will close enrollment in the marketplace for Android users, desktop, and tablet on March 29, 2016. The Marketplace is the application store for Firefox OS-based devices. Mozilla also plans to remove all applications that do not support Firefox OS.

However, Mozilla confirms that the application for Firefox OS is still accepted until 2017. Therefore, the Mozilla itself has not been able to determine the right time for termination of the application for Firefox OS.

Although no longer develop Firefox OS, Mozilla called will focus to another field. In a statement, the company plans to work on technological innovations in the field of Internet of Things. In fact, Mozilla said it will run several projects included in the agenda of the development team.

On the other hand, with the end of Firefox OS, Mozilla does not just abandon its mobile business lines. Companies that are known to choose a program that will focus on new product innovation for smartphone users.
